(a)
1.Push plunger completely to the end closest to the speaker.
2. Back it out until the sound resonates intube.
3. Recordthe length of the air column.
4. Continue pullingout to other resonating positions if they exist.
5. Fromthe relationship, L=λ/4,3λ/4, 5λ/4,… calculate the wavelength of eachresonating length and calculate average.
6. Usethe frequency from thegeneratorand the average wavelength to get the speed of sound using the equation v=fλ
(b)
Changethe frequency of the generator the repeat the experiment described in (a). Plotthe data ; 1/f as the independent variable and λ as the dependent variable. Draw the bestfit line and the slope will tell you the speed of the sound.
