Hello, Mr. Bae!

I have a question for number 49.

I sort of rushed through this passage when solving the questions..

While listening to your explanation for this question, I realized, I have completely missed the point of that part of the passage.

The followings are two main statement in Paragraph 7

1."I don't think that you would want to have a lot of black hairs along the top of your back if you wanted to try keep cool".

-> I thought the main point point of this sentences was mocking the random relationship between the black "hair" on the back to keep cool, not "black".

2."It's kind of the last color that you would want."

-> I thought the author was saying black was ugly..(I have projected my own opinion- I think I probably made this conclusion because I didn't get the accurate gist out of sentence 1)

I think I should've been able to connect the clues on paragraph 7 through...

1. the context of the passage 2-> the strip serves as a cooling system

2. Tim Caro's emphasis on "color of the strip"

3. the relationship between 1,2.

In your summary lecture, you mentioned that, black actually absorbs heat. I thought I didn't have to infer that far...but I had to.

Can you check my thought process?

Hey Haewon! =)

Sure, I can check your reasoning!

To your points:

1. Yes! The "cooling" system is a great context clue.

2. Yes! Car focuses on the colors

3. Yes! Absolutely... color of animal --> relates to a cooling system. Black doesn't make sense as a color to keep cool (since black absorbs heat and makes things hotter, right?). You aren't really inferring too much; instead, you are "connecting the dots." =) Since "thermoregulation" (regulating heat) in (B) most closely matches the focus of the essay, that is the answer you want to go with.

Good job with your reasoning!

Keep it up! You got this, Haewon!
