제목 [Jin Bae] SAT Reading
12 Lecture_42_Reading Practice Test #5_02 12
작성자 cje*** 등록일 2021-02-11 오후 2:04:29

Hello, Mr. Bae!
I've been working on Toefl lately, for 20 days!

Now, I am back to SAT.

I am trying to gain the SAT 'sensor' back now ;)

1. I have a question on the paired questions 4 and 5.

I thought A for 4 and B for 5 could possibly be an answer if I think about like this.

In your lecture, we left B for 5 as a possible answer choice.

A on 4 says, " his friend's and neighbor's opinions".

I thought we can infer Papa was afraid of Baez finding out that his daughter was writing a rebellious poem,

However, I thought it could also not be an answer for it has the word, "neighbor" while Baez is not Papa's neighbor.

Or maybe, the focus of answer choice A was concerning the opinion of the public.

Can you clarify this?

2. I want some advice from you on my studies for SAT.

While I want to be fully committed to SAT, I am afraid that the test would be canceled.

I really enjoy studying it for it has increased my critical reading skills and structured a big frame of grammer concepts on me.

My college admission starts on July, so I only have 3 chances to take SAT. So my thoughts are,  'If the test get cancelled, wouldn't my time and energy be a little waste?'

Fortunately, I am currently living in Vietnam, where we are relatively safe from COVID-19. I was able to take SAT on December.

I really want to continue studying SAT, could you give me a word of encouragement to keep studying? Because, inside I know that I would regret if I stop at this point.

Hey Student!

Great question! Let's see if this explanation helps.

For the paired questions, you must understand that the correct answer in #4 must be supported by the lines in #5; in other words, the two answers work as a pair.

Although I did leave (B) in #5 open, I did so because it does show papa's concern (this is seditious = the poem is rebellious). However, I was able to easily eliminate it because there were no answers in question #4 that closely matched those lines. If you thought (A) could work in question #4, you are speculating too much. Stay more closely to the literal translation of the words in the passage. "This is seditious" just refers to the poem and that it is rebellious. Don't infer anything about papa being worried about Baez; that is adding your own interpretation and inferring too much.

Hope that helps!

In regard to your second question, first of all, I am so sorry to hear about your situation. =( I can't imagine how students such as yourself are dealing with the COVID chaose. You guys are much stronger than I ever was...I know I wouldn't be able to handle the changes. If you have three more chances to take the SAT, I'm sure you will be able to take the test at least two more times (people are getting vaccinated and society getting somewhat back to normal). There will be several opportunities for you to take the test; no worries =). Also, I don't think that your time was wasted at all. You did learn to read more critically, which is a super useful skill in life. =) You also developed grit and deep learning throughout this experience. I honestly believe those things are much more important than any SAT score. =) That being said, don't give up~ keep moving forward, one SAT passage at a time. =)

You got this!
