Hi Haewon!! Yes, I definitely recognize you as one of those diligent students! I'm really proud of the effort you are showing!
Explanation for #5:
If you chose (B), I do think you are making too much of your own interpretation. You need to stay more within the words of the passage. Based on the words in 22-27, all you know is that Levin didn't recognize (was not aware of) someone he doesn't know too well in the first (an acquaintance). You would be making your own interpretation and going too far beyond what the words are saying if you think, "oh, Levin is unsettled about telling Kitty he loves her." For one, there is no reference to Kitty at all. Also, thinking that "levin didn't recognize him" = "levin is unsettled about telling kitty he loves her" is adding your own reason for why he didn't recognize him. Compare these lines to 38-45. Lines 38-45 explicitly use words that mention kitty; plus, "he was almost retreating, so overwhelmed with terror" is directly telling you that he is unsettled. No one could argue that Levin is unsettled now; no one could argue that he is unsettled for what he is about to do next based on these lines. Remember that the SAT is objective, which means that the correct answer must be given by the words in the passage. Once you start adding your own opinion/interpretation, you are making the test subjective, and that is dangerous because your opinion/interpretation can be different from mine or others.
Hope that explanation helps =)
Also, #6
I LOVE your process! That's great! Step 3, when you thought about the "quality" of something, that was brilliant! It does clearly distinguish (C) - life saving surgery from (D) - a meaningful performance. Excellent job!
Keep working on "Your own interpretation" vs "Staying within the words of the Passage." When you "stay within the passage," you should mainly be "restating/paraphrasing the words in the passage" because the correct answer on the SAT will also mainly "restate/summarize/generalize the information in the passage" and sometimes only make small, simple logical conclusions from the words in the passage.
You got this!!
