For questions 8 and 9, I chose answers A and B respectively. The questions were: 8) According to the passage, which of the following is a a benefit of Fragrant Moss over its competitors? A. Fragrant Moss smells better because it only uses sun, water, and carbon dioxide. B. Other fragrances can’t be used in bathrooms. C. Other fragrances cost more because it’s more complex to make D. Fragrant Moss doesn’t undergo any chemical reactions that are emit harmful substances.
9) Which choice provides the best evidence for the answer to the previous question? A. Lines 9-12 (“This...market”) B. Lines 26-28 (“Well...particularly strong”) C. Lines 29-31 (“It...fragrances”) D. Lines 34-36 ("This... chemicals")
Starting with question 9, I agree with the fact that answer choices A and C are a bit off, but I personally feel like answer choice B is a stronger answer than D. The question wanted to find us a quote that showed a benefit over its competitors, but answer D did not. Instead, it focused on the weakness of traditional ones, which doesn’t necessarily mean that the new Fragrant Mosses are better than them. Also, in the video, Mr.Jin said to examine the surrounding sentences, or the context. With the context, it certainly does make more sense than just simply using the weakness of the traditional ones as the answer. Then, shouldn’t the answer include all of the context? Or shouldn’t be the next sentence be a better choice, which is “In contrast, the scent produced by Fragrant Moss is created using only sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water.” I just think that answer choice D is a bit incomplete answer. For question 8, I got question 9 wrong, so I automatically got this question wrong as well.
I still quite don’t understand why D is a better answer than B. Thank you so much.
