Hello, Mr. Bae!

I just got back from my mid-terms and resumed my journey for the SAT.

I am confused with practice test 4, test 5, question 51, 52 which are pair questions.

I have assumed that the data set was deficient since it only encompasses 60% of the marine animals that have ever existed, thinking 'how about the other 40%?"

As I reread the paragraph, I found more evidences that the data set is actually comprehensively collected, such as by reading the phrase, " amassed mountains of data".

I am trying to convince myself, that these data set is comprehensive, yet, unconvinced.

Can you please convince me?

Hey Student!!

Welcome back! I hope midterms went well =).

Wonderful question. One that I would be happy to "convince" you of. haha.

What's happening here is that you are getting too focused on the word 60% (thinking it's not that big of a percentage) and you're reading out of context.

The first sentence of passage 2 says " after conducting an extensive study..."

The first two sentences of paragraph 2 of passage 2 says "the team amassed mountains of data"..."the hulking dataset".

These words "extensive," "mountains of data," and "hulking dataset" all point to the study being really comprehenvisve.

Plus, keep in mind that although 60% does not seem like a big percentage, it is

"nearly 60% of ALL animal genera to have ever lived"....think about for a second. Out of all the anmial genera to have ever lived on this planet, the team collected over half of that! That's a huge amount of data! =)

So you're exactly right when you said "amassed mountains of data" made you think it was comprehensive, you simply have to consider the context of the other things I pointed out. Then, you should be completely convinced. =)

Don't overthink on the SAT. Remember, it is an objective test. If you "speculate" too much, you might get yourself into trouble. Stick to the words that are presented in the passage, and you should be fine.

Hope this helps!!

Keep moving forward!!
