제목 [Kevyn Lee] SAT Reading
Lesson 21 21

Hi,

I am on the last passage of test 2, and I can't understand question number 43, where it asks about the relationship between the two passages.

I chose A, which I know is the wrong answer, and I can also see why D would be right,

but if I were to do this question again, I wouldn't know exactly which one to choose.

So for option A, is the phenomenon just language acquisition? or is it that language acquisition makes people fail to see the world as a whole?

If it's just language acquisition, the second part of the answer choice would be wrong because Passage 2 doesn't find language acquisition a cause of concern, is that correct?

Also, for option D, the first part seemed correct to me, but I thought the second part was wrong because it only talked about one advantage (efficiency) of language acquisition just in one sentence. I remembered you telling us not to rely too much on one sentence, and that we should look at the passage as a whole...

Could you explain this question more clearly for me?

Thank you.

1. Well first of all, like I said in the lecture itself, passage 1 isn't just about a "phenomenon".

Right now, it's not important whether the phenomenon refers to just language acquisition or languague acquisition making people fail to see the world as a whole because passage 1 is just an "opinion".

What the author of passage 1 is trying to say is just his/her view.

2. Well if you look at the passage a little bit more carefully, it's not just one sentence.

It's more like 80% of the first paragraph which focuses on the benefit of language acquisition.

When we are born into this world, all sounds are incomprehensible, but through language acquisition, we come to associate objects with certain words.

What is stated in pararaph 1 is just concisely restated in the beginning of paragraph 2, and paragraph 2 then focuses on the author's viewpoint.
