제목 [Steve Han] About the NEW SAT Reading
Lecture 5 Pride and Prejudice, question 7. 5

Hello Mr.Steve,

I’m a 9th grader studying the SAT using your reading lessons, but on Lecture 5, question 7, I was not able to understand why B was not the correct answer.

The question was a ‘which choice provides the best evidence for the answer to the previous question’, and the previous answer was that Mrs. Bennet generally views Mr. Bennett’s response to her request as D) Annoying uncooperative, so I chose B for question 7, lines 92-93, ‘It will be no use to us, if twenty such should come, since you will not visit them.’ This shows that Mr. Bennet was uncooperative to Mrs. Bennet in finding husbands for their daughters, and the sentence clearly shows annoyance towards Mr. Bennet from Mrs. Bennet.

However, that was not the answer, and the answer was A, line 83, where it says ‘You have no compassion for my poor nerves.’ You said that this was the correct answer because ‘no compassion for my poor nerves’ means ‘your getting on my nerves’, thus being annoying.

I still don’t get how this line represents the uncooperative part of the previous answer. Could you please give a more detailed explanation?

Thank you.

By the way, your videos are the only SAT lectures that I actually find pretty funny to watch. Thanks!

Hi... glad you are enjoying the videos.

As for your question... you answer is not totally off, but the question requires the "best evidence" to the previous answer, which consists of two words: annoyingly and uncooperative. In order to answer the question properly, you must choose an answer that is the "best evidence." The best evidence will address both 'annoyingly' and 'uncooperative.' B addresses the uncooperative part, but does not address the annoyingly part. Furthermore... B is not a response to her request as per question 6. You have the right idea, but you need to read and answer the question properly.^^ Keep working on it and you will succeed.
