Optimisation Problems 21

Hello Mr. Rhee,

I am enjoying your calculus course very much and I would like to thank you for the newfound interest you have sparked in me. I am nearing the end of the AP Calculus 1 course, and I ran into a problem in exercise #4 in the unit optimisation problems (pg 121 in your book)

I have attached my own working out (in black) and your working out (in blue).
I am wondering whether the volume unit (10ft^3) affects the end result. I'm from Australia thus I have limited knowledge on imperial units so please excuse me if I mistook anything.

Could you please clarify what I did wrong in that particular question?
Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to listening to more of your lectures.

Yours sincerely
Yoonji Kim

Hi Yoonji,

This is Mr. Rhee.  Thank you for telling me that you enjoyed my AP Calculus lectures. I hope you learned alot.

I looked at your attached solution and found one mistake from converting ft^3 to in^3.

1 foot= 12 in (inches).

1 ft^3=1 ft X 1 ft X 1 ft = 12 in X 12 in X 12 in = 1728 in^3 (not 144 in^2)

Hope you resolve your problem.

Best regards,

Mr. Rhee
