안녕하세요. 선생님! series 1 test 3-2 지문에 있는 문장에 관한 질문 있어 글 남깁니다!!

(1) Somewhat more promising have been recent experiments for releasing capillary water (water in the soil) above the water table by injecting compressed are into the ground. 

위에 문장에서  "by injecting compressed are into the ground" <-- 이게 무슨 뜻인지 , 도대체 are이 어떤 단어에 맞는 동사인지, compressed가 어떤 단어를 꾸며주는 건지 혼자서는 아무리 고민해봐도 잘 모르겠어요. ㅠㅠ

(2) Whatever the final answer to the water crisis may be, it is evident that within the High Plains, irrigation water will never again be the abundant, inexpensive resource it was during the agricultural boom years of the mid-twentieth century.

위에 있는 문장에서 "it was during the agricultural boom years of the mid-twentieth century." 이 문장이 아무것도 없이 그냥 바로 resource 뒤에 붙어도 되는 건지 궁금합니다.
