Hello, I was watching the first video on "Membranes Transport" and had a simple question!

For aquaporin protein, you have mentioned that the way they use protein to absorb water from urine to blood was under the concept of 'protein facilitated diffusion'. But I also thought that since it was the movement of water, it was osmosis....? Then does it mean that even if it's the movement of water, whenever protein is used in the process, it counts as diffusion?

Hello!

Great question

Usually osmosis is a term that refers specifically about  movement of water, without the aid of any other mechanism.

Because aquaporins are membrane proteins that aid in the transport of water molecules,

technically it would be better classified as protein facilitated diffusion

That being said, whether it should be considered osmosis or facilitated diffusion is not incredibly important;

as long as the underlying mechanism and the reason for the movement is understood.

Hope this helps! :)
